New WordPress Theme and Blog

This week, I have changed all my blogs to use a theme called LightWord. My blogs now look more neat than before (well, at least I fell).

Besides, I also created another blog called Journey to Financial Freedom. It is a blog about personal money, stocks, properties, small business, online revenue and everything else about money.

Now I'm maintaining 5 blogs (actually more than that, ha). It's hard but hopefully I can maintain to write a few posts every week!

What Have You Done to Achieve Financial Freedom?

I think most people may have a same dream in their life - to achieve financial freedom. I am having the same dream too.

Financial freedom means that you are in control of your money, rather than it controlling everything you do. It's a long journey to achieve freedom: learn, fail, learn and fail... the only success.

What have you done to achieve financial freedom?

I have my own plan which I believe it is a long learning road and may take some time to achieve.

I'm now consider self-employed. So saving my income is a must and is the most straight forward way to increase asset.
I invest in stock market, 80% on fundamental analysis and 20% on technical analysis. I know I will still need to learn a lot in stock market. To me, investing in stock market is the simplest way own a company and as a shareholder for the company and you can share the company profit without actually doing anything in the company.
I invest in unit-trust (mutual funds). My unit-trust account is just like my saving account where I will try to use any money in that account. When stock market is bearing, I switch most of my unit trust funds' money to unit trusts with low risk profile (which have lower return but most of the time get better return than a fixed deposit account). When stock market is bulling, I switch most of my unit trust funds' money to unit trusts with higher risk profile (which hopefully to get higher return).
Internet Business - I'm not taking very serious on this but it does help in contribute me some pocket money every month. Some of the types of Internet business I will try is blogging (earn from advertising revenue and selling affiliate products) and online stores (as long as the operation cost is less that RM1k per year).

Currently stock markets and mutual funds are the most comfortable zone for me to make most of my investment. I'm not investing in any real estate because it is not suitable for me now. Investing real estate will require a lot of money, time and efforts. If I make a wrong step in real estate investment, it could turn a good debt into a really bad debt.

First, I made the most of Technorati tags. I tagged every key word in each of my posts. Initially I did this manually but them I discovered a WordPress plugin called SimpleTags that made the job a whole lot easier.
I found that by tagging my post effectively they were getting a lot more attention then their untagged counterparts, and as an added advantage I was getting focused, quality traffic to the site!

I leveraged my existing website. I’ve been running my business website for a few years and that was getting modest levels of traffic that was relevant to my blog - so why not try to drive some of that to my new blog! I placed a few FeedBurner headline animator blocks on some of my most popular pages and after a day or so I noticed a significant increase in traffic for 5 minutes worth of work on my part.

Finally, I made effective use of trackback links to popular sites. If I commented on a post on another site I would make sure that I set up the appropriate trackback for it. The results from this are varied depending on the site and post that you are linking to but since I liked to comment and interact with the wider blogosphere anyway, it was free traffic!

What I think...

I don't like tags on my post. I feel that it will drecrease my site's traffic. When visitors see the tags, they migh click on it. I did get traffic from Technorati but I don't have any tag on my site. Instead I use the ping service. I make ping to Technorati 's ping service (http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping) whenever I write a post. You can make this automatically by putting the URL under WordPress Admin's Options - Writing - Update Services
FeedBurner - yes this might help a bit. Many blogger did this. You can subscribe to FeedBurner and put the feed animator as your signature on your other site and forums
Agreed with him. You can have backlinks and traffic for free. But you do not spam other people website. Most people hate that.

For me, the content is the king! When you have good quality of content, search engine and traffic will come to your site automatically and slowly. Keywords are one of the key element, try target more niche keywords instead of general keywords. Please do not over mention the keywords, search engine might think you are spamming with keywords. Put those targeting keyword in page title, keywords (meta tag), title of article and first paragraph of the article. Although some search engines (e.g. Google) do not recognize keywords in meta tags but the is no reason we don't want to put it in for other search engines.

When I login into my adesense account, I saw a news:

NEW
We've added seasonal spirit to our ad units - you now have the option of displaying themed colors and graphics in your ads during holidays and special events. Visit our What's New page for details.

Adsense is ready for Christmas! Adsense called the new format ads "themed ad units". They are the ad units that display themed colors and graphics during holidays and special events.

At the Adsense's Ad Formats page, I only see 160x600 Wide Skyscraper layout is supported. Not sure about others.

What you need to do to activate the themed ad units is go to "My Account"->"Ad Type Preference [edit]" and enable it.

Before this, we have Adsense's Referral Program. Now, as an adsense publisher we have even more:

1. Firefox referrals are now available internationally!
You can earn up to USD1.00 when someone download and install google toolbar from your Firefox referral link.

2. Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up
It works like adbrite.com or adengage.com where advertiser can buy a ad space directly from you webpage using thier own Adwords account. To customize your own Onsite Advertiser Sign-up:

Log in to your AdSense account.
Under the My Account tab, visit the Account Settings page.
Scroll down to the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up section and click 'edit.'
Upload a logo for your site.
Use the default description, or create your own to highlight key information you'd like advertisers to know about your sites.
Choose the color scheme for your landing page.
Click Save changes.

Google Analytic and Urchin

Last time we heard about Google had bought Urchin. Urchin used to be a very good traffic analysis software. Now google offer it for its google account users for free. Anyone with a Google account can register it for free.

The great thing about Google Analytic:

Free, of course
Sophisticated of analysis
Easy to use
Integrated with Adwords
Multi-lingua
Large log space

Although the free version of Google Analytic is limited to 5 million pageviews a month but I think it is more than enough for a moderate traffic's website. However an active Adwords account's user will have unlimited pageviews.

Last time I was using statcounter for my websites which provides very small log space (250,000 pageloads per month). Now, I had switched to Google Analytic ... What about other users with free account (and probably with paid account)? I think they will switch to Google Analytic too. Then, what will happen to statcounter and other websites that provide same service? hmm...
