Income Tax – PCB for Last Year

The deadline for submitting income tax filing BE2008 is coming, so I’m trying to finalize my tax filing.

Some of you may receive bonus for 2007 in year 2008 but hasn’t decalred the income, you will need to fill the detail in “INCOME OF PRECEDING YEARS NOT DECLARED” / “PENDAPATAN TAHUN KEBELAKANGAN YANG BELUM DILAPORKAN” section. While I’m filling this section, I don’t see any field for the PCB that I had paid for the preceding years.

Therefore I dropped an email to Â HLDN and within a day, this is their reply:

Please note that only PCB for 2008 should appear in BE 2008.
You can write in to the branch which handles your income tax file
regarding PCB for bonus 2007.

So you will need to send a letter to the branch that handles your income tax file for the PCB of preceding years so that you can make any claim back if you eligible to.

Public Mutual Online Experience

I did make some investments in Public Mutual’s unit trust, therefore I’ll need an online account that make my Â investment easier. Applying a Public Mutual online account is pretty easy and the application approval and response from Public Mutual is pretty fast too. Currently you can only buy new unit trust and add additional investment to your existing unit trust via Public Mutual Online. I believe feature like switching funds and selling funds will be available soon in near future.

Income Tax Filing

The deadline for submitting income tax filing BE2008 is coming (on 30th April 2009). Have you submit yours? If you are running your own business, the deadline for submittingÂ income tax filingÂ B2008 is due on 30 June 2009.

If you haven’t registered for online filling, you can register one at e-Filing websiteÂ and follow the instruction on the website to submit your income tax filing.

Below is a list of items that most people will entitle toÂ relief:

Self relief – RM8,000 (Everyone will be entitled to this automatically);
Medical expenses – RM5,000 (include RM500 max for medical exambination);
Wife/husband relief – RM3,000 (combine assessment);
Child relief – RM1,000 per child (below 18); RM5,000 (Disable child);RM4,000 (above 18 and studying in colleges and universities);
Life insurance + EPF – RM6,000 max;
Medical & Education insurance – RM3,000 (max);
Fees for acquiring technical, vocational, industrial, scientific, technological,law,accounting,islamic,financing,skills at tertiary level or post graduate level – RM5,000 (max);
Purchase of books (excluding newspaper or banned publication) – RM1,000
Purchase of sports equipment – RM300.
